Charles Gardner Appointed Director of Sales and Marketing for Kimpton Canary

USA, Santa Barbara, California. April 13, 2026

Charles Gardner is the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Kimpton Canary Hotel and has been elevating the hospitality industry for more than 20 years, building a career across branded and boutique hotels in U.S. markets from coast to coast. Born in Nebraska and raised in North Carolina, once Gardner relocated to California, he worked with Hilton Hotels at properties managed directly by the brand, strengthening his operational and brand experience. In his role at the Kimpton Canary, he oversees sales, marketing, group strategy, corporate travel, catering and events, and the overall positioning of both the hotel and its signature restaurant, Finch & Fork, within the Santa Barbara market.

Gardner was drawn to the Kimpton Canary for its strong sense of place within the community and deep roots in Santa Barbara's history. Having visited Santa Barbara years before his current role, he has always felt that there is something special about the city, which the Canary reflects in an authentic way, balancing destination appeal and neighborhood relevance. Through strong local partnerships and unique initiatives, he creates experiences that feel organic to the destination. Gardner continues to elevate the property, which features 97 rooms and suites, a rooftop pool and lounge, event spaces and culinary and beverage offerings, while building on a legacy that spans generations and continues to evolve.

Throughout his career, Gardner has been part of several high-achieving teams that gained notable recognition for their work, including the Hilton Lighthouse Award, presented annually to the top 5% of Hilton hotels in the Americas for overall quality, guest satisfaction and performance. Gardner has also been part of teams that have successfully navigated hotels through major market disruptions, supported charitable organizations, and mentored team members into leadership roles.

Prior to hospitality, Gardner began his career owning and operating a gourmet gift and retail business, which eventually grew into a full-scale retail location and e-commerce business offering gourmet foods and high-end specialty items. Building the business from the ground up formed the entrepreneurial foundation that continues to influence his approach to hospitality today. Most importantly, he is proud of his two children and grandchildren, who continue to shape his perspective on his work.
