Paddle Florida's Sixth Annual Suwannee River Paddling Festival is April 6-8
One hundred paddlers will enjoy paddling, camping, and great music April 6-8 at Paddle Florida's sixth annual Suwannee River Paddling Festival. This season's finale is beautifully situated atop the bluffs overlooking the confluence of the scenic Suwannee and Withlacoochee Rivers. Suwannee River State Park near Live Oak will serve as home base for paddling trips on both rivers, an evening benefit concert, and real Florida fun.
During the weekend, paddlers will explore the Suwannee and Withlacoochee Rivers in segments ranging from 8 to 12 miles. Along the way, they'll float by clear blue springs, pristine white sandbars, and moss-laden live oaks and cypress trees lining limestone banks. They will also experience great music, outdoor meals, an evening ghost tour through nearby ruins, and an opportunity to hear from experts dedicated to preserving Florida's watersheds.
The beneficiary of this year's concert proceeds will be the Florida Society for Ethical Ecotourism, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to maintaining a professional code of ecotourism ethics in order to encourage an awareness and stewardship of Florida's natural and cultural heritage. Paddle Florida has earned Silver Level certification from Florida SEE for its adherence to ecotourism principles.
The full festival package is $175/person and includes two nights of camping, all meals, entrance to the benefit concert, event t-shirt, water bottle, and river maps. The registration deadline is March 23, or when festival capacity of 100 paddlers is reached. In past years, this festival has filled weeks before its registration deadline, so save your seat soon.
Paddle Florida leads multi-day trips across the state to promote Florida as an international destination for nature-based tourism in general and paddling in particular. Designated a nonprofit in 2011, Paddle Florida fosters water conservation, wildlife preservation, springs restoration, and waterways protection. The April festival winds up Paddle Florida's current season. Their 2018-19 season of paddling adventures will be announced on May 1.
