Manchester's Wilburton Inn Delivers Autumn Leaves in Castle-Like Setting in Vermont's Southern Mount

. October 14, 2008

MANCHESTER, VT, September 6, 2005. Scattered across America are early 20th century country estates that resemble small castles. For example, in Manchester, VT., The Wilburton Inn is a 39 room, gabled, turn-of-century (20th) gem with wrap-around terrace offering an elevated, hard-to-beat perspective of the upcoming foliage season.

Nightly room rates for leaf peeping from Sept. 29 through Oct. 24 range from $180 to $315 inclusive of spacious accommodations, a full country breakfast in what was once a billiard room with a view and afternoon refreshments in front of a fall fire. (A 9 percent Vermont tax and 10 percent gratuity are not included.)

Also available is a separate on-property dwelling, Reunion House that accommodates up to 14 in seven bedrooms for a nightly foliage rate of $950. Get-aways from now to Sept. 28 are nightly from $135 -$225 midweek and $150 -$250 on weekends.

The 20-acre estate that commands the best views in the region was at one time the largest private estate in Manchester. On premise are the mansion, five villas, tennis courts, a swimming pool, sculpture gardens and, in season, vibrant flower beds. Golfing and skiing are minutes from the estate, as is this southern Vermont town's famous shopping area.
