Senior Vice President of Operations, RoamBOOST

Pam Angelucci is a distinguished hospitality veteran with more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry and hospitality-related IT. As the former Ritz Carlton Hotel Company CIO and vice president of technology, Ms. Angelucci guided several business units to resolve problems and increase revenue. Ms. Angelucci is senior vice president of operations for RoamBOOST, a Boston based technology group that provides cellular infrastructure for hospitality as well as other markets. RoamBOOST’s distributed antenna solutions, or DAS, enhance cellular signal for hotels and other multi-use buildings. The technology connects properties to voice and data cellular networks necessary for every day operations. As SVP/operations, she is in charge of projects from initial site assessments, managing installation processes, and ensuring the proper cellular coverage is maintained on each property. Ms. Angelucci is a talented, strong leader, with effective project management skills, and a long-term record of improving efficiencies in the hospitality industry. Skilled in selecting and building high-performance teams, she directed the information technology divisions for several leading companies while retaining exemplary retention rates. Ms. Angelucci brings a wealth of industry expertise from former C-level roles and major consulting assignments, such as Montage Hotels and Resorts, Morgans Hotel Group, Andre Balazs, The Fontainebleau, Twelve Hotels and Residences, Ian Schrager Company, and Capella. She is a member of HFTP, Hospitality and Financial Technology Professionals, and was nominated in 2002 for the "Georgia CIO of the Year" award. Ms. Angelucci earned her bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering from James Madison University, and is currently a resident of Milton, Ga. She served as a captain in the Army reserves for 10 years after college. She volunteers regularly and remains active as a board member for many non-profit companies.

Human Resources: An Era of Transition

Traditionally, the human resource department administers five key areas within a hotel operation - compliance, compensation and benefits, organizational dynamics, selection and retention, and training and development. However, HR professionals are also presently involved in culture-building activities, as well as implementing new employee on-boarding practices and engagement initiatives. As a result, HR professionals have been elevated to senior leadership status, creating value and profit within their organization. Still, they continue to face some intractable issues, including a shrinking talent pool and the need to recruit top-notch employees who are empowered to provide outstanding customer service. In order to attract top-tier talent, one option is to take advantage of recruitment opportunities offered through colleges and universities, especially if they have a hospitality major. This pool of prospective employees is likely to be better educated and more enthusiastic than walk-in hires. Also, once hired, there could be additional training and development opportunities that stem from an association with a college or university. Continuing education courses, business conferences, seminars and online instruction - all can be a valuable source of employee development opportunities. In addition to meeting recruitment demands in the present, HR professionals must also be forward-thinking, anticipating the skills that will be needed in the future to meet guest expectations. One such skill that is becoming increasingly valued is “resilience”, the ability to “go with the flow” and not become overwhelmed by the disruptive influences  of change and reinvention. In an era of transition—new technologies, expanding markets, consolidation of brands and businesses, and modifications in people's values and lifestyles - the capacity to remain flexible, nimble and resilient is a valuable skill to possess.
